The manuscript appraisal is an objective study of the marketability of your potential published book, as well as an assessment of the context (purpose, content and structure) of the reading material. The appraisal will be comprehensive and objective according to the context, writing style, and reader interest of the material, and is intended to encourage and direct you to perhaps rewrite areas of your manuscript to make the book appealing to your target readers.

Academy Publishing provides editing and proofreading services, which comprise a qualified editor to read through your manuscript, correct grammar, punctuation and spelling, and make notes on any parts of the reading material they think need your attention. To maintain your authorship, our editor will only provide recommendations for restructuring your manuscript if need be, whereby specific sentences, paragraphs, and chapters will need to be completed by you to complete the editorial process.

The book formatting process involves your manuscript being converted from the submitted Microsoft Word file to the Academy's book template format. This includes formatting all text, images, page numbers, page headers and paragraph headers, with the required margins, image bleed, etc. The Academy's expertise will choose the best design suitable to the type of book to be published from your manuscript. If you prefer a specific font size or type, image placement, or cover design, we will negotate this with you in the lead-up to the formatting process.

Changes may occur progressively to the cover design until you, the author, is satisfied with the final design. Your input is thus requested before the design process begins in regard to images you might want to use, as well as their layout. However, images obtained from the internet must have source references with the required permissions if necessary.

Book Printing and Binding
Once final approval and acceptance of your book is reached in regard to both content and cover, the Academy will arrange for the production of a set amount of bound books, which is initially limited from five to ten copies for your use in promotions and book presentations. Thereafter, your book is printed on demand (POD).

Book Distribution
Academy Publishing can arrange for the appropriate distribution of your POD books. If your book is commercially distributed, an industry standard of 40% discount applies to all sales made through the wholesale distribution channel. The Academy charges 10% commission from the book sale price for arranging book distributions.

Book ISBN and CiP
An ISBN is the International Standard Book Number, which legally registers your book so it can be catalogued and sold commercially. The ISBN is used to generate the barcode on the back cover of your book. In addition, Cataloguing-in-Publication (CiP) information is used by the Australian library system to catalogue your book. The National Library of Australia (NLA) supplies the CiP listing to be added to your book, which lists details about your title, genre, ISBN, etc. As part of our ISBN and CiP package, we also make eDeposits of your book to the National Library of Australia and the State Library (state of publication).
